Multidisciplinary
Critical Care Team
To successfully handle all types of emergency situations and deliver specialized treatment for a variety of conditions, Bhrungi has built-up a multidisciplinary team whose coordinated expertise is available round-the-clock. The team broadly comprises:
Intensivists (Critical Care Specialists)
Intensivists are assigned to the ICU on a full-time basis and work with other critical care team members to provide patients with continuous, consistent care. They know how specific treatments affect all the organ systems, avoid duplication of procedures and medications, and discuss the patient’s preferences regarding medical treatment.
Critical Care Nurses
Critical care nurses are the mainstay of the team. Not only do they provide a high level of skilled nursing for total patient care but also enable communication between all those involved in the care of the patient. Their expertise and constant presence allows early recognition of subtle, but significant, changes in the patient’s medical status, ensuring timely intervention to prevent deterioration in the condition and minimize the risk of complications.
Pharmacist or Clinical Pharmacologist
A specialist in the science and clinical use of medications, a Clinical Pharmacologist with speciality training in the ICU, recognizes the specific needs and problems of critical care patients. He/she works with other members of the healthcare team to deliver medication therapy that is effective and safe.
Dietician
A key member of the medical team that consults with physicians, nurses, therapists, and family members in the ICU, the dietician chalks out ways to enhance the nutritional health of the critical care patient to help in faster, better recovery.
Respiratory Therapist
As part of the critical care team, the Respiratory Therapist monitors and promotes airway management of the patient. This entails various modalities such as oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation management, aerosol medication therapy, and cardio-respiratory monitoring.
Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist
While the physical therapist helps restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities, the occupational therapist makes a complete evaluation of the impact of the disease on the activities of the critical care patient at home, in work situations, and recreational activities. Both coordinate with the healthcare team to work towards reducing the physical and psychological disability of the patient.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)”
The ICU at Bhrungi Hospitals is equipped with high-tech specialised facilities for close monitoring, rapid intervention and, in certain cases, extended treatment of patients with acute organ dysfunction and life-threatening conditions.
With a dedicated team providing round-the-clock critical care, the ICU has sophisticated systems like hemodynamic monitors, ICP monitors, IAP monitors, ventilators, and defibrillators to maintain the patient’s vital functions. Besides, our advanced diagnostic services are available 24×7 to support the activities of the critical care team.
To provide specialized care in an ICU setting, Bhrungi also has:
- Medical Intensive Care Unit – for the care of patients with medical conditions requiring frequent observation, specialized monitoring and medical treatment.
- Surgical Intensive Care Unit – for the management of postoperative patients who have undergone complex surgery, organ transplantation, neurosurgery, high risk delivery etc., and who require continuous monitoring or life support.
High Dependency Unit (HDU)
For improved outcomes and better management of critical care patients, Bhrungi provides the services of a High Dependency Unit. In simple terms, an HDU could be described as a bridge between the ICU and wards. While the level of care is not as intensive as in an ICU, it is much higher than that in a ward. It is appropriate for patients who have been stabilized in the ICU or who have undergone major surgery or who are suffering from single organ failure.
